Dear Les:
How does one capture the essence of a man in a brief testimonial. At the invitation
of Margo Russell, I'll endeavor to provide a contribution for the Harry Bass testimonial
project.
Most of us are quite content to enjoy the fruits of life as we enjoy our brief passage
through time.
Some, few of us leading by example, leave behind a mark which will beneficially impact
upon ManIcind through generations to come,
Such a man was Harry W. Bass, Jr., who left his mark not only with his family, and
also with his business and community circles, but most importantly for us, within
the realm of the numismatic community.
While it was my privilege to know Harry only rather casually, I was quite aware of
his boundless energy and commitment, particularly where his collection, the American
Numismatic Society, and the promise of computerization were concerned.
His lasting legacies to the numismatic community will certainly be his commitments
to research and scholarship through the Harry W. Bass, Jr.. Research Foundation and
the American Numismatic Society. Those legacies will, in larger part, be perpetuated
as a consequence of his foresight in pursuing the related computer realms.
The numismatic community is certainly immeasurably richer for his passage.
Sincerely yours,
Clifford Mishler
President
